  1. What stepper motor has to offer in the field of engineering?

The stepper motor provides good torque at low speeds, great for holding position. It can provide very precise movement at a given angle, without feedback, the rotation of the rotor depends on the number of pulses applied. High accuracy. Wide range of speeds.


  1. Explain how can we identify a stepper motor through physical outlook?

If the motor has four or more winding connections, then it is likely a stepper.
If it has four wires, it's a bipolar only stepper. If it has five wires, it's a unipolar only stepper. If it has six or eight wires, it can be used as either.


  1. Explain the operation principles of a stepper motor.


The stator has four windings located at a 90-degree angle.As soon as voltage is applied to the first winding, the rotor moves to the angle indicated above. When voltage is applied to the second, third and fourth windings, the shaft continues to rotate until it passes a full circle. Then the process is repeated from the beginning. If you want to change the rotation sequence, you need to send pulses in the opposite direction.


  1. Why are the step positions likely to be less well defined when a motor is operated in ‘two-phase-on’ mode as compared with one-phase-on mode?

The pitch angle of this 2-phase 2-pole permanent magnet rotor is expressed as 360 / (2 x 2) = 90 degrees. The step size can be reduced by simultaneously switching on two phases or a sequence of modes of single-phase switching on and two-phase switching on with the correct polarity.
