  • Half of Toronto East1 families earn an income over $64,054, which is higher than Toronto median ($61,800).

  • The proportion of households relying on government transfers, that include social assistance payments, is above the city average at 15.7% in Crescent Town, 12.3% in Massey Creek, 11.2% in Broadview-East York and 10.9% in Central Riverdale.

  • Census data in Toronto East confirms that there is a strong correlation between the percentage of newcomers and the percentage of low income families. This correlation exists independent of the percentage of university graduates.

  • Census data also confirms a strong correlation between the percentage of visible minorities and the incidences of low income households. In areas where there is a high percentage of visible minorities, there are high levels of low income.
