Underestimating the task:’I’m not worried about Task 1,it is
easy’
• People are not worried about the Writing Task 1 because it is
‘easy’,admittedly it could be argued that Task 1 is ‘easier’ than Writing Task
2 because you are given all of information you need, and it is relatively short
at only 150+.However,’easier’ is a relative term and is not the same as ‘easy’.
• Although you are not being asked to produce an academic piece of
writing, try to keel it simple as possible
• Flexibility refers to your ability to explain something clearly even you don’t
know exactly the right word to use.
• Use as many synonyms as possible.
Key idea:you are likely to list or ‘recount details mechanically’and lower
your TA score if you begin writing as quickly as possible,and/or you are
unsure about:
• the difference between details and key features
• how to clearly present and highlight key features
• how to give a clear overview
• how to select information
1.3 Writing a conclusion in Task 1
Having looked at why you may be giving details that are
‘inaccurate’ we also need to understand how or why you may be
giving details that are not
irrelevant
or
inappropriate
.
Irrelevant or inappropriate details:
Any discussion of what the results mean is presented in another
part of the paper-the Discussion paper-and so is irrelavant here.
