Abstract 

 

The impact of current economic crisis on countries’ economic security is nowadays one of the most 

debated  issues  among  international  economists.  Therefore,  this  paper  discusses  principal  channels 

through  which  this  crisis  affects  countries’  economic  security,  namely,  in  the  financial  and  real 

sectors.  This  paper  concludes  by  underlining  the  importance  of the  role  played by  different  types  of 

institutions, notably regional ones, in enhancing economic security. Several examples from transition 

countries are used.
