Two-Part Question Essay Version:
Nowadays, an increasing number of young people are using the
internet to socialize.
What do you think is driving this habit? Do you believe this is
positive or negative? Give reasons for your answer and include any
relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
At present
, there are 
increasingly
more people 
under the age of
thirty
who are 
turning to
the internet to socialize. This essay will discuss
two of the main driving forces behind this behavior and the main reasons
why I believe it is mostly a negative trend.
Firstly, it is reasonable to assume that
one of the main driving
forces behind the rise in online socializing is the 
advent
of social media in
the last two decades. Digital natives have grown up being able to
communicate with people worldwide through direct messages,
photographs, voice chat, and video. This has arguably shaped the way they
interact and has shifted more of their social connections online. In addition
to the influence of social media, young people have had to deal with
unprecedented situations, such as the 2008 financial crisis or the more
recent COVID 19 pandemic. While the 2008 financial crisis led to many
young people being unable to find work and spending extended periods at
home, the COVID 19 pandemic left much of the world’s population
effectively house-bound for weeks, and in some cases, months on end.
This meant that people had to adapt, as they had to do all of their
socializing online.
Although there are many advantages to socializing online, and it has
proven to be highly advantageous in extreme situations such as the
pandemic, it is mostly a negative trend when it is overused, in my opinion.
