3 Types of Problem-Solution Essay
The three essay types:
Problem and solution
Cause and solution
Just the solution
We will cover the most common type, which is problem-solution.
Cause- solution is exactly the same, but instead of analyzing the
“problem,” you analyze the “cause(s)” and then possible solutions.
It is very rare to get an essay where you only discuss solutions, but it is
the easiest type: you focus 100% on solutions to the problem expressed
in the question.
Typical Question Phrases
Asking about the cause(s) or the problem(s):
“What are some resulting issues, and how can they be addressed?”
“What problems can this cause, and how can they be addressed?”
“What issues arise from this, and how can we solve them?”
“Why is this? How can it be solved?”
“What is the reason for this, and what measures can be taken to solve
the issue?”
Asking about the solution(s):

“How can the problem be improved?”
“What measures could be introduced to solve this?”
“What solutions can be implemented to deal with the issue?”
“How can this issue be resolved/prevented?”
 
Full Task Example
The number of people moving from rural to urban areas in search of a
better life is increasing, but city life comes with its own set of issues.
What exactly are these issues, and how can they be solved?
In this example, two questions have been phrased as one. What are the
issues, and how can they be solved?
