What would you do to improve the education system  i f  you  were 

the Minister fo r Education?

I think the main im provem ent th at I would m ake to the education sys­

tem would be reducing the num bers of exams.  I would introduce m ore 

coursework-based  assessm ent,  so  th at  the  em phasis  was  on  students 

really learning and understanding a subject; not just m em orising facts 

to repeat in an exam.  I would also introduce m ore life skills education, 

to teach children about the responsibilities that they will face as adults.
