Employee resourcing, generally known simply as 

‘resourcing’ is the term used to describe activities 

concerned with the acquisition, retention and 

development of human resources.

 



Strategic resourcing is concerned with ensuring 



that the organization obtains and retains the 

people it needs and employs them effectively. It is 

a key part of the strategic HRM process, which is 

fundamentally about matching human resources 

to the strategic and operational needs of the 

organization and ensuring the full utilization of 

those resources.

 



The aim of strategic resourcing is therefore to 

ensure that a firm achieves competitive 

advantage by employing more capable people 

than its rivals. These people will have a wider and 

deeper range of skills and will behave in ways 

that will maximize their contribution.

 



Strategic resourcing places more emphasis  



than traditional personnel management on  

finding people whose attitudes and behaviour  

are likely to be congruent with what management 

believes to be appropriate and conducive to 

success.

The philosophy behind the strategic HRM 



approach to resourcing is that it is people who 

implement the strategic plan. Resourcing 

strategies exist to provide the people and skills 

required to support the business strategy, but they 

should also contribute to the formulation of that

and selection. It is concerned with any means 

available to meet the needs of the firm for certain 

skills and behaviours.

resourcing is the integration of resourcing and
