When we deal with the words denoting time we come across very great deal of words in the English language. They may be different according to their structure so to the parts of speech. They can be a noun (time, period, term, stage, space) a verb (continue, last, go on) an adjective (continually, on foot, durable) so adverb (during, day by day, meanwhile, meantime, all the time)17
According to their morphological structure they may be simple, derived so compound words.
While analyzing the semantic structure of the words denoting time we can observe that many of them are polysemnatic, however, some monosemantic words are also found here. For instance, combination of prepositional phrase up to is considered to monosemantic word expressing the meaning “till present”, however, combining with the “date” it becomes polysemantic word denoting time.
Giving the most resent news so information; so modern so using the latest ideas or knowledge.
Instead of the word date the noun minute can also be combined with this prepositional phrase so it becomes up to the minute that can express the meanings:

  1. containing all the most recent news so information.

  2. very modern

As we have analyzed that two word combinations with the word up to which was monosemantic become synonymous.
We have given the semantic structure of the words time that is as noun above, now let us analyze the semantic structure of the word last which can be a determiner, an adjective, a pronoun, an adverb, a noun so a verb.
So, the word last can have following meanings:
