Conclusion
The very nature of its activities means that the environment of Broad- moor Hospital is extremely stressful. The potential for this stress to be enhanced, collectively and for individuals, is very great considering the difficulties in recruiting and retaining staff, and the nature of the service that they are then required to deliver.
The hospital has a traditional public service structure and directorate. Potential for stress also exists because, as well as the internal factors indicated above, as a public service institution pressures are exerted on it from time to time by the media and political vested interests.
