Summary: The Complete Architecture of the System 
To summarize and make the readers understand how all the pieces of the problem fit 
into the architecture, the system under consideration has been depicted in Figure 1.6.1.

As shown in Figure 1.6.1, the system has three main entities: Developer’s PC, Device/LWM2M 
Client and LWM2M Server. The aim is to provide abstraction to the developer from the protocol 
stack in a way that it is possible to automate the client-side application development by seamless 
integration of IPSO objects. In the end, it should be possible to manage the LWM2M client 
(e.g. SARA by SODAQ) in end-to-end fashion via LWM2M server. (

Literature Review 
In this thesis, technologies from several domains intersect at one point or the other. Let’s 
revisit the protocol stack for the problem from section 1.5.4 to understand all the technologies 
that have been worked on, in this thesis.

As seen, the thesis involves work on an LPWAN technology - NB-IoT - from cellular 
telecommunication domain, DTLS from cybersecurity and encryption, CoAP, UDP/IP from 
networking domain and LWM2M which in itself is the intersection of all these technologies. It 
also involves technological terminologies that are not very commonly known. Hence it is 
required for the readers to understand these technologies and terminologies in-detail. 
This chapter provides in-depth review of the important technologies comprised in the 
scope of this thesis.
