According to some people, Olympic Games promote world peace and harmony among nations while others argue that it is not a sensible way of spending money and that money should be diverted to improving other important fields. I side with the former due to certain reasons discussed in this essay.

If huge taxpayers' money goes towards the purposes of entertainment, instead of eliminating pressing issues so that it results in public resentment against the government. Moreover, the country should refund fields that can bring long-term benefits to the country such as education and health care and by doing that it can take important steps to decrease poverty and improve public life quality.

On the other hand, by means of holding these exciting sports events countries and nations all over the world come together for friendly competition forgetting their past conflicts and political disputes. The Olympics not only unite all nations but also give them chance of feeling as one big group - human race, despite their race, gender or nationality, therefore help them understanding each other better and live in peace and harmony. There is also fact that the city making bid for hosting the Olympics should meet certain demands of the Olympic Committee, for instance, the candidate city should convince them the expenses of covering the Olympics should not be burden to taxpayers, instead, it should worth it by improving infrastructure and creating new job vacancies. So as to make sure, the committee itself also investigates the city for two months, hence the claim of the Olympics is complete waste of money is rather unreasonable and crude judgement to make.

In conclusion, I am in firm belief that although the holding these thrilling sports events for every four years not comes cheap for the hosting countries, it is praiseworthy experience, as they profoundly contribute to international diplomacy and promote international security and world peace among nations.
