ТHE DIET

Once my mother took me a lecture “Diet in health and disease”. I listened to it with great interest. Some facts from this lecture I think will be interesting for you too so I shall retell them to you.

If a person wants to be in good health he must be careful about his diet.
People who do heavy physical work need more food than people or mental work.
It is impossible to work out mathematically what each person must eat. It is important to know that a diet must consist of enough of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, minerals, water and vitamins.
So you know that a diet must consist of enough of proteins, in fish, meat, liver, kidneys, cheese, eggs, milk, sugar, bread, potatoes, beans, green, peas, butter and nuts.
A mixed diet of meat, fats, fruit and grain is beat of all to those who want to be healthy. The aged must not eat so much as the young people.
Important of (meat) health of the digestive system are: exercise, well balanced diet, some glasses of water daily, regularity of meals and evacuation


VOVA'S ILLNESS

Vova was a nice little boy of seven. Everybody liked him. He lived with his mother and his little sister Lyda who was only five years old. The children were quite happy and always gay. They played and laughed all day long. In winter the children lived in town, in summer the family used to go to the country.

One day at dinner, Vova refused to eat, he had no appetite and looked ill. When the mother noticed that Vova was until, she called in the doctor.
Dr. Serov soon arrived. He examined the sick boy. As Vova had slight fever, headache, sore throat and a cold in the head, Dr. Serov advised the mother to keep him in bed. The doctor added that Vova had probably measles.
On the following day the fever reached 38.9. on the third day there occurred a fall of temperature, but the symptoms persisted. There were headache, soreness in the throat, reddened and watering of the eyes, secretion from the nose, cough, and sneezing. Toward the end of the third day the temperature, increased again. By the morning of the fourth day a pale red rash appeared on the skin. It developed first on the forehead, cheeks, behind the ears and about the mouth; soon it extended over the whole body, the forearms and hands, the legs and feet. On the sixth day the rash was at its height, then it faded, first on the face, then on the chest and trunk, at last on the limbs.

OUR CLASSES
Every day we have practical classes in numerous theoretical and specials subjects. We perform different laboratory works and attend lectures in Biology, Anatomy and others. It is useful to us to listen to the lectures because the professors always deliver them clearly and scientifically.
We know that we shall need deep knowledge in Anatomy in our future work. Only hard in the dissecting room will give us the possibility to gain this knowledge. That is why there are always many students in the dissecting-room.
There are two terms in the first year. Each of them lasts for about 16-19 weeks. At the and winter term we shall take examination in Physics and Chemistry. We shall have several credit tests too. The winter holidays last from the end of January till the middle of February. At the and of the spring term we shall take examinations in Latin, the History and others.
It is necessary for us to work hard during the whole academic year if we want to pass our first examination session successfully, for “A good beginning takes a good ending”.
