Materials: Pictures, computers
Objectives:

  • Inventions can change the way we live.

Ask students if they can think of any other inventions that changed the way we work and live. Can they trace changes and refinements in those inventions? An example might be the sewing machine, which, originally, was mechanical, rather than electric, and had to be operated by a foot pedal. Another might be the phonograph, which evolved into the CD player.


  1. Many inventions start out with design flaws and are refined later by subsequent inventors and designers.

Lead- in
Objective: to concentrate Ss’ attention on presented topic

Procedure
* The teacher distributes question cards and asks students to guess the topic of a present day class.

Activity 1
Objective: let the students to read the text about computers and to discuss advantages and disadvantages of them
Materials: text Handout 2 Computer

A computer is a device that processes data according to a set of instructions known as a program. The equipment is known as the hardware and the programs and data are the software. A special set of programs, called an operating system, provides an interface for the user and allows applications programs to communicate with the hardware. Common applications programs include wordprocessors for creating and editing texts, spreadsheets for calculating mathematical formulae and databases for storing data in a way that allows the data to be sorted and searched.

Time: 15 min
Procedure

* check the answer
