Make Notes About Main Ideas and Supporting Details 
Your thesis statement tells what your essay will be about. Now you will write notes about main 
ideas and supporting details that will make up the body of your essay. The main ideas support 
your thesis. The supporting details explain each main idea. 
You should have two or three main ideas per essay and at least two supporting details per 
main idea. 
A clear and easy way to organize your ideas is to make notes 
in outline 
form. Your outline 
should show your thesis and the main idea and supporting details for each paragraph. Here 
is a blank outline.
