Solution:
(a - b)(a + b) = 24, which may results to a – b = 3 and a + b = 8
By checking, (a + b)4 + (a – b)4 = 4177, 84 + 34 = 4177, hence adding squaring a – b = 3 and a + b = 8 gives
a2 – 2ab + b2 = 9 and a2 + 2ab + b2 = 64.
Adding these equations and dividing both sides by 2, we get
