Describe an occasion when
you were a leader or set a
positive example in your
school or community.
Despite the fact that I have worked for 5 years, I did not have enough experience and knowledge in
preparing students for International Mathematics Olympiads. After entering the Presidential School, I
was tasked with preparing students for international competitions and winning, along with teaching
the Cambridge curriculum. However, it is obvious that Olympiad problems are more complex than
school mathematics and require special training. I was in a very difficult situation. Because in order
to teach children to solve the problems of international Olympiads, I first had to be able to solve and
explain them to students. I was given a 2-year respite. I have studied several Olympiad books to
prepare, and have mastered the approach to the subject in them. Then I started studying
International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) issues. Frankly, these issues are a lot harder than I
thought. Still, I studied them for a year. Then, I singled out mathematically gifted kids from the
Presidential School students. We studied the books I had studied with them together. What made
me happy was that all these students were the most talented children in Uzbekistan, and they
learned the knowledge I taught very quickly and developed faster than I expected. If I taught them
combinatorics and showed medium-difficulty problems, they would be able to solve even more
difficult problems on their own. As a result, in 2021, we have won our first medal in Uzbekistan
Mathematical Olympiad and participated in the qualification stage of IMO. Besides that, one of my
students participated in IZHO 2022 and solved one problem correctly. He came close to the bronze
medal but could not. Anyway, we know that we are in the right way, and I can say this is the most
positive thing I did in school.
