Thank you fo r taking the tim e to see me today, M r Jones. I’d ju s t like to take a m inute to outline
o ur new step machines.
No problem , I’m interested in getting a few. We don’t have any in the gym yet.
T hat’s great. Well, let me ta lk you through the build of the step machine. If you have a look at the
sales brochure you can see w hat they look like on page 14.
OK.
These m achines are two m etres ta ll, so they tend to stand out. The ta lle s t part is the holding
fram e. At the top there we have the main g rip s . These grips, when they are held, m on itor heart
rate so that the user can check they are w orking out at th e ir o ptim um heart rate.
T hat’s great. And where does th is rate show up?
They’ll be able to see it on the screen below. This screen is fu lly d ig ital and shows not only th e ir
heart rate, but the num ber of steps they've taken and the distance they've travelled. On the panel
there they also have a selection of w orkouts. They can set it by distance, or tim e, o r by the am ount
of calories they w ant to burn. They can even set it to clim b a fam ous m ountain o r h ill, o r w alk up
the Leaning Tower of Pisa fo r example!
That's great, I like those m ore fun settings.
And the great thing is you can have people clim bing up Mount Everest, fo r example, every day fo r
ten years and this m achine w ill s till be in perfect w orking order. It's made to last. It not only has a
m eta llic spine but durable pedals made from the m ost high-tech m ate ria ls on the m arket.
And the m achine w orks via a w heel in the centre? T ha t’s unusual, isn ’t it?
Yes, it is, but we find a ce ntral w heel lasts much longer than a pump system. The ce ntral w heel
is attached to a bracket which ensures each step m ovem ent is as sm ooth as the last. The fin al
feature I should point out to you is the side supports, which ensure safety fo r a ll m achine users.
If users feel tired, they can hold on to these and slow down th e ir stepping!
I see! Well, I th in k I m ight take three of them .
OK, Alice, I ju s t need a few m ore details to s ta rt your m em bership. Your fu ll name is Alice Wilson
yes?
No, Watson.
Oh yes! I'm sorry. Which age range are you?
Well, I'm ju s t out of the 16-25 bracket! I'm 26 now.
Great, 26-35.
Yes.
And do you have any health problem s which may affect your exercise?
No. I don't have any health conditions.
I’ll put none. Do you do any exercise at the m om ent?
Not much. I exercise a couple of tim es a w ee k.
And w hat do you do?
Well, I used to play tennis, but I stopped. Now I only go sw im m ing.
OK ... And why have you decided to join up?
Just to improve my fitness. I don’t w ant to lose any w eight o r build m uscles or anything!
Fine. Well, I would recom m end doing the Level 2 w orkout program m e to begin w ith. It takes about
fo rty m inutes to do the w hole program m e. I’ll get you an inform ation sheet so you can see w hat it
involves.
Hi, Penny. How are you doing? Have you ju s t been to the gym?
Hi, Debbie. I’m good, thanks. Yes, I’ve ju s t finished a w orkout. How are you?
Yes, good. I'm planning on going to the gym la te r but it's hard finding the tim e now I've got a child!
I bet it is! Have you tried any of th e ir new exercise classes?
Yes, I tried some last week. I wanted to go to yoga, but it was fu ll up. I w ent to the dance class
instead. It was really fun. Oh! And kickboxing last Thursday to o . That was exhausting.
