Description of Service: Valley Wide Help; 4 hour information and referral ser4vice provided by the American Red Cross of the Greater Lehigh Valley. Trained Information Specialists listen to the callers’ problems and identify the callers’ needs through interview techniques and problem assessment. They then consult Valley Wide Help’s comprehensive computerized database of over 2,000 referral sources to identify specific organizations that may be able to assist them. Also provide disaster response, heath and safety administrating and classes, armed forces emergency communication for family members and Valley Wide Help (telephone information Line). Also provides housing for males in crisis, homeless. Bilingual staff person (Spanish-English) available at times.

Description of Services: Free classes on mortgages, budget basics, retirement, cost-wise use of credit. Also, available money management, credit counseling, mortgage assistance information. Spanish-speaking personnel available. Individual counseling available on sliding fee scale. Debt management cost is a flat fee.

Description of Services: Run by the Community Action Committee of the Lehigh Valley, this program matches eligible family’s savings (for example, for each $10 you save, they will add $10). If you saved $2,000 they will match it with another $2,000, up to a total of $4,000 in savings plus match (over a 2 year periods). You can use the money for home buying or repair, car purchase, business start-up, education or child care costs.

Description of Services: an association of over 50 local churches, the conference has several social service programs. A recent grant funds Homeless Housing Services (HHS) for adults with a mental health or other disability. Their Pathways Program is an emergency service clearing-house for people with housing, food, job, and other needs. They also sponsor the Linkage Program whose street caseworker connects homeless people with services. Then Conference assists with medical prescriptions for people without resources to fill them, The Conference also has a “Repetitive Payee” program to assist those on SSI (including children) who need help to manage their income and bills. Description of Service: For residents of Northampton County. Helps with emergency shelter, prescriptions, home heating oil, baby needs, children’s furniture and clothing, local transportation, eye exams/glasses. Also has an Interfaith Emergency Food Pantry for residents of Easton, Wilson or Palmer and may use 2 times a month, but must bring proof of income and ID for all family members. Provides group and individual classes for ESL, GED and Adult Basic Education Skills. Also offers Even Start Program, preschool for Even Start parents’ children, Comprehensive Family Literacy Services, Day and evening classes at various locations in Easton, Parent Education and Parent Support Group. Spanish Speaking staff. Child Care for Even Start and ESl.
Requirements: Client must have interview and assessment of skills. All services are free.
