Alexander Volkov(1886-1957)

A painter, graphic artist, theater artist, Volkov painted genre and thematic paintings, portraits, still lifes, landscapes and abstract compositions. He is one of the founders of the Uzbek School of Arts. He studied at the Faculty of Natural Sciences at St. Petersburg University (1906-1908), in a private studio in St. Petersburg, and then - at the Higher Art School at the Academy of Fine Arts (1908-1911), at the private school Berstein (1910-1912), where his teachers were N. Roerich and I. Sherwood; also graduated from the art school in Kiev (1912-1916) - teacher F. Roerich. Krichevsky.

Volkov participated in exhibitions in 1920 and was a member of the Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia (AHRR) and the Association of Russian Artists (AKHR) (since 1927)," Master of the New East " (since 1928). He organized the "Volkov Brigade", which was attended by young artists of Uzbekistan. In 1919, he was director of the State Museum of Art of Central Asia, and since 1922-head of the "Proletkult-Theater".
