Pavel Benkov(1879-1949)
Benkov studied at the Art School in Kazan (Tatarstan, Russia) at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, continuing his education at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts (1901-1908). Then he studied in the studio of D. Kardovskiy and I. E. Repin, as well as at the Julien Academy in Paris (1909), after which he returned to the art School of Kazan. He moved to Uzbekistan in 1929, where he took part in creative and pedagogical activities. Being an avant-gardist of Russian realistic art, he created works dedicated to Bukhara, Khiva and Samarkand.
