JANE

I do.

ROCHESTER

Jane...

He kisses her gently, lovingly.

ROCHESTER (CONT'D)

Do you mean it now?

JANE

I do.

He runs his hands over her, with great tenderness. Jane

offers no resistance.

ROCHESTER

And now?

Jane nods.

ROCHESTER (CONT'D)

Oh Jane...

Rochester lays her down.

ROCHESTER (CONT'D)

What friends would you offend by

living with me? Who would be

injured? Who would care?

Jane is almost lost. She speaks in a small voice.

JANE

I would.

ROCHESTER

Jane, it would not be wicked to

love me...

JANE

It would be to obey you. I care

for myself.
