SIOP Lesson Planning Reference

• These are strategies you can use to assist with developing language instruction in your class .
• There is a list included with strategies and websites that teachers will find helpful for lesson planning.

Testing Participation Committee (EL/TPC)

• Testing accommodations should be followed in the classroom as well as on standardized tests.
• Accommodations are determined based on collaboration between the committee members. Committee is made up of ESOL teacher, classroom teacher, and one other stakeholder
• 1 copy of the TPC should be given to the classroom teacher (1 copy in green ESOL Folder)

Transact Translating Documents

• TransACT is a web-based program that allows users to access translated versions of a myriad of standardized educational forms and documents that have been approved for content by the Georgia Department of Education. It is filled with legally required multilingual parent notices.
• www.Transact.com – All teachers should register on transact.com and use the forms as needed throughout the year. This is monitored by the state and should be used .
• Unless parents have requested in writing that information be sent home in English, you should send information home in the Home Language. Teachers can check the Home Language Survey found in student permanent record for this information.
• If you are sending something home that is NOT on TransAct, Google Translate is a tool that can be used cautiously, however, if you use this site, follow the following recommendations:
• Double check yourself- put it back in and translate it back to English.
• Include a line saying “This has been translated using Google Translate. If there are any mistakes, please let us know.”
• If it is NOT on TransAct and it is not possible to translate using Google Translate, there is a sheet on TransAct requesting that the parents have someone translate it for them. That can be attached as a last resort! 
• If a parent requests a translator for a teacher -parent conference please contact your administrator .
