Gihan Abou Zeid
is a member of the Global Nexus Secretariat of the German Corporation for 
International Cooperation (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit—GIZ). She 
is the Secretary for Women in the Egyptian Social Democratic Party – SDP. Abou Zeid worked as 
a regional adviser for the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development – OECD 
from 2015 until 2018 and is a regional researcher in the international study on Gender-Sensitive 
Parliaments with the Inter-Parliamentary Union – IPU. She also worked as an adviser (policy 
expert) to the Minister of Family in Egypt until January 2011. She also worked as an adviser at 
the Regional Office of the United Nations Population Fund – UNFPA to develop a comprehensive 
Arab strategy for dealing with governmental and non-governmental religious organizations for 
the 2011-2015 period. She completed the Arab Youth Strategy for the Millennium Development 
Goals, the United Nations Development Programme – UNDP, and the Arab League, as well as 
the Strategy to Combat Violence Against Women in Syria. She was also the research manager 
for the Violence Against Women project with the United States Agency for International 
Development in Egypt until 2009. She also works with UN organizations in several Arab states.
