    PROCEDURE OF THE LESSON:

    Activity 1 Read the quotations. Say which you like best and why. Explain it.

    Objectives: to raise PP awareness of the importance of readmg; to practisevtalking about reading

    PP read the quotations silently and decide which one they like best Ask as many PP as possible to say what theythink. With more advanced classes you could use one more quotation and let your PP choose out of the three instead of two 3 There is no frigate like a book

    Activity 2 Read, match and listen.

    Objective: to make PP aware of different types of literature This is a normal matching activity.

    Language note: fiction (n) - books and stones about imaginary people and events fictional (adj) - imaginary

    Activity 3 a Read and listen. Match the authors and texts.

    Objective: to practise reading for detailed information PP look at the pictures. You could ask them if they have read anything by any of the authors, whether they have heard of the authors or know the names of any of the books they have written.

    Then PP read the texts and match them and the portraits of the six authors. You may wish to ask your PP whether: 1 Robert Frost is an American or British poet (The right answer is' American')

    2 Arthur Conan Doyle is American or British writer (British)
