The 2012 Occupational Outlook Hand book reported that employment of dental assistants is projected to grow 25% from 2012 to 2022 (303,200-377,600), much faster than the average for all occupations. Research linking oral health and general health will likely continue to increase the demand for preventive dental services. Federal health legislation is expected to expand the number of patients who have access to health insurance. People with new dental coverage will increase the demand for all dental services.
