Wednesday May 6th 2015 City meeting highlights: (This meeting was held at the Charlotte Harbor Event and Conference Center.)
CRA Business:
#--- Lease agreement with Punta Gorda Downtown Merchants Association for the Artisan's Atelier. The CRA approved renewal provided they pay the property taxes.
#--- Funding for continuation for a Health Educator position for the Trabue Woods Community was approved by the CRA.
#--- Request for additional funding for hand-railing to complete the Laishley Park Marina building renovation was approved by the CRA.
City Business:
#--- GA-04-15 A first reading of an amendment to an ordinance Chap. 26 PG Code "Park Regulations" Sect. 16-4(g) (5) to permit leashed dogs in Alice Park, Pittman Park and on Nature Park Walkways Etc. was approved by City Council.
#--- Summary of Alligator Creek Access to Charlotte Harbor (aka Bird Section Cut-Thru) Public input and City Council discussion of the next steps to be taken. After many fore and against comments from the public in attendance and discussion by City Council members it was agreed the City should take over this project and put together a game plan, feasibility and cost study before a final decision is made.
Wednesday May 20th 2015 City meeting highlights:
#--- Next year's Arbor Day will take place on April 29th 2016
#--- 30 year service award to Steve Padget Sr. Project Mgr.
#--- 10 year service award to Howard Kunik City Mgr.
#--- ZA-06-15 A first reading of an amendment to an ordinance Chap.26 PG Code amending Art.3 "Regulating Districts" Sect. 3.7 "NR" (Neighborhood Residential) Sub.Sect.(b) "Permitted Accessory Uses and Structures" adding clarification of provisions for structures accessory to residential and deleting "Note" regarding such accessory structures, amending Sect.3.8 Etc.Etc. was approved by City Council.
#--- V-01-15 Request for a variance to the Land Development Regulations Chap. 26 Sect 16.10 PG Code to allow a new swimming pool under construction to have a rear yard setback of 19.5 feet at the closest point instead of 20 feet on property 3213 Antigua Drive PGI was reluctantly approved by City Council.
#--- GA-04-15 A second reading of an amendment to an ordinance Chap.26 PG Code "Park Regulations" Sect.16.4(g)(5) to permit leashed dogs in Alice Park, Pittman Park and on Nature Park Walkway Etc was approved by City Council.
#--- 30% Design Plans for Harbor Walk US 41 South Bound Underpass were presented by Weiller Engineering estimated cost for this project $238K permitting now in process.
#--- FEMA Risk Map update was given by Weiller Eng. but as yet it is still not final.
#--- Discussion to consider exceptions for water craft storage in the SRO district, it was decided by City Council to stay with present code as is .
#--- Request for a waiver of lien interest for property 501 Showalter Ave. was approved by City Council.
#--- An update of conceptual plans for Harbor Walk behind Laishley Park Municipal Marina and Laishley Crabhouse Centre by Weiller Eng. was well received
Thursday May 28th 2015 SCCC meeting highlights:
#--- Our first guest speaker was was Kim Devine, Punta Gorda City City Council Member who spoke on her association and activity with D-FY Cooper Street in regards to a drug free Punta Gorda, this was a very interesting presentation.
#--- Our second guest speaker was Nancy Prafke, Punta Gorda City Council Member who gave us an update on the traffic situation in the Burnt Store Plaza area and its consequence to the homeowners on Tripoli Blvd her dealings with Florida D.O.T has not as yet yielded any satisfactory results.
Wednesday June 3rd 2015 City meeting highlights:
#--- ZA-06-15 A second reading of an amendment to an ordinance Chap.26 PG Code amending Art.3 "Regulating Districts" Sect.3.7 "Neighborhood Residential District" amending Sub. Sect.(b) "Regarding Permitted Accessory Uses and Structures" Etc, Etc. was approved by City Council.
#--- Recommendation for Award of Residential and City Recycling Facility Services to Waste Management of Port Charlotte Fl. City Council approved Waste Management to supply 1- Large container with wheels to replace the existing 2- blue re-cycle containers, this will take effect October 2015
#--- Council continued discussion regarding the use of trash bags vs trash cans and yard waste at the curb side more than 24 hours prior to scheduled pick up. The LDR Review Committee and Planning Commission will make recommendations to City Council.
