CHAPTER I. SHAKESPEARE’S LIFE AND WORKS
1.1.William Shakespeare's Biography

It is hard to imagine the history of world art without Shakespeare. His influence on the development of theatrical art is incomparable. His tragedies are among the masterpieces of world literature. Shakespeare's works are still on the world stage today.

William Shakespeare is an English playwright, poet and actor, one of the most famous playwrights in the world, the author of a cycle of at least 17 comedies, 10 chronicles, 11 tragedies, 5 poems and 154 sonnets. He left his hometown in about 1585 and after some time went to London. His career as a theater actor and playwright began in 1580. There is no information about Shakespeare's acting career after 1603. However, he continued to write plays for his Lordkamerger Servants troupe (called the royal troupe after James I's accession to the throne). He returned to Stratford in about 1612 and died there. Shakespeare’s career as an actor lasted about 15 years. He played secondary roles in England’s best-regarded troupe and wrote plays for that troupe.

Birth is not clear!

William Shakespeare was born on Stratford-upon-Avon, a population of 1,500, 1,600 miles from North London. The town was a center for the slaughter and sale of sheep and the sale of hides. Shakespeare’s date of birth is unknown. His baptism was recorded on April 26, 1564. Since no birth certificate was issued in the time of Elizabeth I, this date can be called an official certificate. Since the baptism took place a few days after his birth, Shakespeare was probably born in April 1564. There is no historical basis for her birth on April 23 at that time babies were baptized 3 days later. Surprisingly, however, he died on the same day in 1616. It was the feast of St. George, the patron saint of England, so that the birthday of the great English playwright could be considered a good day.

William Shakespeare was the son of John Shakespeare and Mary Arden. They were married in 1557 and began living in a house on Henley Street, where the famous playwright is believed to have been born. The family had eight children: Joan was baptized on September 15, 1558, died in infancy, Margaret was buried on December 2, 1562, buried on April 30, 1563, William, Gilbert was buried on October 13, 1566, buried on February 2, 1612, Joan was buried on April 15, 1569, buried on November 4, 1646, Ann was buried on September 28, 1571, buried on April 4, 1579, Richard was buried on March 11, 1574, buried on February 4, 1613, Edmund was buried on May 3, 1580. Ch., buried December 31, 1607, in London.
The head of the family, John Shakespeare, was prosecuted for selling woolen cloth before William was born, and the title of senior men was revoked. There is some information that this house was pro-Roman Catholic. There is also no clear source as to where Shakespeare studied. Apparently, he attended a free school in 1553, which opened in Stratford. The school was a quarter of a mile from their home. King Edward VI, who ran the school under his own name, provided funding to «distribute good literature throughout the kingdom.»2 A certain part of the education was to learn the language well, to organize performances in Latin. No sources have been left on Shakespeare's higher education. During his time as a permanent resident of Stratford, theater troupes visited the city at least 12 times. In particular, there will be two performances for officials, and among the audience will be John Shakespeare. As a court supervisor, he would give permission for the troupe to perform.
