The City of Nedlands is located approximately seven kilometres to the west, of Perth’s Central Business District. This area stretches along the Swan River, to the Indian Ocean, with a population of approximately 21,000 residents. The City of Nedlands comprises of the following seven suburbs; Dalkeith, Mount Claremont, Nedlands, Swanbourne, Karrakatta, as well as some parts of Floreat and Shenton Park.

History of City of Nedlands

In 1959, this was 130 years after the first British settlement of the Swan River. The original name was ‘Nedlands Road Board’, was changed to ‘City of Nedlands’ in 1959.

Milestone Event

An Arts Event that remembers the life of the beloved actor Heath Ledger.

Focus of press release

The focus of this press release is to let the community, general public and the arts industry become aware that The City of Nedlands is celebrating the arts within the community as well the life of actor Heath Ledger.

There are two target audience groups this event can target.

The primary target audience is the community as they need to be aware about this event and what the celebration is about.

The secondary target audience would be the surroundings councils as well as the arts industry people as they may be interested in attending this event.

What is in it for the target audience? What are the benefits?

By holding this ball the City of Nedlands council are letting the community know that if they get involved they will be helping the arts within the community, as well as remembering Heath Ledger’s life. For the future if the community gets involved benefit from the proposing development of an arts centre.

What do you want to achieve (objectives)?

By having this ball it will specifically target the City of Nedlands community as well as the arts industry within Perth, to help celebrate the arts and life of Heath Ledger.

“Celebration of Heath Ledger and the arts”

The City of Nedlands will be hosting an exquisite ball to commemorate the beloved actor Heath Ledger. This will be a celebration of the arts, nevertheless the success of Ledger’s life. The ball will be held at the iconic Perth Convention Exhibition Centre on the 1^st of July, 2010.

Having produced some of this generation’s finest talents, it only goes to show why the arts are so valued within the City of Nedlands. Heath Ledger was said to be “one of the greatest talents of this generation”, and his talent will be missed immensely. This is why his talents should be honoured, as he was just beginning to make a significant impact on Hollywood.

At the ball there will screenings of some of Heath’s most memorable scenes, a special performance by Perth band Eskimo Joe, a selection of international cuisines and an incredible selection of wines and cocktails.
