Introduction 
At present, flame ionization detectors have found wide application in gas chromatography due to the fact that 
they have the highest sensitivity of all detecting devices. In addition to its high sensitivity, the flame ionization detector 
has another important property. It has been experimentally established that for individual hydrocarbons of some 
homologous series there is a linear relationship between the detector signal and the number of carbon atoms in a substance 
molecule [1,3]. This interesting feature of the flame ionization detector can be used to measure some of the 
physicochemical properties of gases, since knowing the number of carbon atoms in a hydrocarbon molecule, in many 
cases one can judge its structure and physicochemical parameters.

Conclusion.
The measurement methods considered in the article can be used both in laboratory practice and in the creation 
of automatic gas analyzers that measure the number of carbon atoms of hydrocarbon substances, the density of calories 
and the C/H ratio.
