Candidate: 
C h ild re n pro b a b ly fe e l h o m e s ic k n e s s m ore a c u te ly because the y m ay never have been away 
fro m hom e before, and because the y are s t ill c lo s e ly attach ed to th e ir pa ren ts. They cannot 
a p p re c ia te the c u ltu r a l in s ig h ts of a new place, o r th e tim e o ff w o rk , th e w ay an a d u lt can. 
A nd the y are g e n e ra lly less fle x ib le w h en it com e s to coping w ith u n fa m ilia r food and so on. 
However, m any a d u lts also exp erience c u ltu re shock w hen the y v is it a new place, w h ich I 
suppose can be c on sid ered a kin d of 'a d u lt ho m e s ic k n e s s '. We find a place stra n g e and even 
s lig h tly d is tu rb in g , and th is is because it is d iffe re n t to w h a t we are used to. So, in a sense, 
w e m is s o u r fa m ilia r s u rro u n d in g s and are indeed ho m esick.
