Air Distribution with High Flow Rates
It has been noted that airflow rates in excess of 3 (ft

special care in the design of the air distribution system. Clean rooms
and mainframe computer rooms typically require 8 to 10 (ft

and these airflow rates cannot be handled by conventional means. A
typical computer room installation is described in Sec. 11.3.3.
In a clean room, the high airflow rate is caused by the need to main-
tain the cleanliness level and not by high heat gains; a

between supply air and room temperature is typical. The laminar-flow
method of distribution is commonly used, either horizontal or vertical.
In the vertical arrangement, most of the ceiling, except for lights, is
used for airflow, with DOP filters as the diffusers (Fig. 5.40). Return
air is removed at the floor line. Then airflow velocity is quite uniform
