VEHICULAR NETwORk STANDARDIzATION
in Vehicular Environments (WAVE) defines an architecture, services, and interfaces that mutually fa-
cilitate secure V2V and V2I communications. In addition to that, IEEE 1616 is for motor vehicle event 
data recorders and IEEE 1512 is a multiple standard for traffic safety and emergency communications. 
In addition to that, we have IEEE 802.20/802.21/802.22 series of communication standards for con-
necting vehicles.
IEEE SCC42 Transportation is a new initiative toward global effort to promote transportation stan-
dards as mentioned in 
Fig. 1.2
. IEEE invites the engagement of trade, government, and academia, 
globally in order to ensure that the IEEE SCC42 transportation’s work is helped by a broad variety of 
views and demands. IEEE SCC42 transportation is developing guides, endorsed practices, standards, 
and customary definitions of terms in order to facilitate this.
1.3.2.3 SDO
The IEEE SCC42 transportation is functioning proactively with varied communities and corporations 
in transportation. Standardization of these functionality efforts leads toward coordination of IEEE 
standardization activities for transportation technologies, notably in the areas of connected vehicles,
