Who’ll Be Left After the Seuss Cancellation?
Regarding Michael Saltsman’s “The
Next Cancellation Target: Dr. Seuss,”
op-ed, March 2): Dr. Seuss is yet an-
other victim of the so-called “liber-
als” and “progressives.” The book
burners and totalitarians in waiting
continue to be carelessly portrayed
by the centrist and conservative me-
dia as “liberals” and “progressives.”
Today’s liberals and progressives’ cal-
culated linguistic somersault is de-
signed to pigeonhole their opponents.
After all who can be against social
justice and in favor of racism?
The future of our democratic insti-
tutions is at risk and, I am afraid, is
approaching the precipice that is
leading to ideological rigidity where
anyone who may hold a different
opinion or ask pertinent questions
will be “canceled,” stigmatized, ostra-
cized and, like those canceled in the
old Soviet Union, considered a non-
person.
Antonio Gramsci, a co-founder of
the Italian Communist Party, wrote
about 100 years ago that to capture
power you don’t need an armed revo-
lution, you simply need to undermine
the existing culture: “The conquest of
cultural power comes before political
power and this is achieved through
the concerted action of intellectual
‘organic’ call-outs. Infiltrated into all
of the communication, expression,
and academic media.”
That objective has been achieved;
those responsible to safeguard Amer-
ica’s most cherished freedoms have,
instead, become the willing execu-
tioners.
