SIMPLE VERB PHRASES

Affirmative

A simple verb phrase has just one verb, which is a lexical verb indicating an

action, event or state. The lexical verb shows tense (present or past) and clause

type (declarative, imperative or subjunctive:

She 

lives opposite me. 

(declarative present, affirmative)

They 

took it home with them. 

(declarative past, affirmative)

Take a seat. 

(imperative, affirmative)

I insist that she 

come along.
