Overview 
This lesson plan, for both pre-experience and in-work 
business students, is based around an article first 
published in 
Business Spotlight
Issue 3/2012. The article is 
about a man who successfully managed to turn his hobby 
and passion into his job. It describes the challenges he 
needed to overcome and the solutions he found which 
allowed him to do so and become
 the 
leading expert in 
his field. 
The tasks in the student worksheets encourage the 
students to learn and use new business vocabulary and 
functional language and to practise useful business skills
such as researching and summarizing information.
The teacher’s notes provide suggestions for teaching and 
learning strategies as well as ideas on how to present the 
tasks in the classroom, any necessary answer keys and 
extension tasks (for in class or as homework). 
Warmer 
This checks that the students don’t start reading the 
article without understanding the absolute pivotal 
key words. The words 
reptiles 
and
 amphibians
may also 
provoke a reaction from some students which you could 
then use as a point of reference in later discussions.
Key:
(example answers) 
Reptiles: snake, crocodile, alligator
Amphibians: frog, newt, toad
Note: Reptiles are cold-blooded animals that give birth to their 
young as eggs and whose bodies are often covered in scales. 
Amphibians are animals that live mainly on land, but produce 
eggs and develop into adult form in water.
