Orobiomes considered as the base units of account of the biota, assessment of coenotic diversity and 
the state of ecosystems. Three orobiomes of the North Caucasus (North–West Caucasus, Elbrus and Dage-
stan) were reflected in the biogeographic map "Biome of Russia" (M., 1:7 500 000), published at the faculty 
of geography of M. V. Lomonosov Moscow state University (2015) in a series of nature maps for institutions 
of higher education. Orobiomes I–order reflects the unity of the existing hight-belt spectra of mountain eco-
systems and their biota; orobiomes II–order includes altitudinal belts with a characteristic vegetation for-
mations existing at a certain ratio of heat and moisture. Every orobiome has its regional peculiarities in the 
structure of the altitude–belt range, in the composition of plant formations of each belt and their biodiversity.
