DEvELOPING TOURISM IN UzBEKISTAN
Student:

Annotation:
Tourism is one of the fast growing and high income-generating industries in the
world, which contributes to strengthening of international socio-economic, cultural and spiritual rela-
tionships. This article highlights priorities for further development of tourism in Uzbekistan.
Key words:
World Tourism organization, international tourism, tourism industry, ecotourism,
history, culture, architecture.
Our state is not very large, and we are not so rich in resources as to trade them right and left.
Therefore, the conclusion suggests itself - it is necessary to stimulate industries that do not require a
large amount of natural resources. So, for example, in all developed countries of the world, foreign
exchange earnings from international tourism are greater than from the sale of a certain category of
goods. According to the World Tourism Organization, 100 tourists in a city with a developed tourist
service spend about $ 200, that is, the stay of one tourist in the city generates an income of $ 2. For
comparison, any even developed country, in order to receive such an income, would need to bring
to the world market about 1 ton of cotton or 2 tons of wheat. Also, the development of tourism helps
to solve another problem - the problem of unemployment. According to statistics, every 30 tourists
visiting the country contribute to the creation of 1 job in tourism and 2 jobs in tourism-related indus-
tries. Also, tourism has a positive effect on the development of the periphery, countryside. It makes it
possible to sell products of agriculture, local industry and crafts. The tourism industry in Uzbekistan
has significant development potential. It is associated with both the presence of a large number of
unique natural objects (lakes, mountain peaks, river floodplain forests) and a rich cultural and histor
-
ical heritage.
On the territory of the country there are over 7000 monuments of architecture and art of different
eras and civilizations, many of which are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Yes, but
this potential is not effectively used, there are many errors, mistakes, shortcomings. In general, the
recommendations of researchers in the field of tourism boil down to three main theses.
First, people who determine the development policy of the tourism industry need to take into
account that not only tourism itself benefits, but also what works for tourism.
Second: and most importantly, detailed planning is necessary, because the growth strategy has
not yet been determined.
And third: you need to pay as much attention as possible to marketing and promotion of the di-
rection.
A large amount of investment is needed to promote this industry in Uzbekistan, in order to make
Bukhara and Samarkand profitable. Many advertisements for excursion tours in Uzbekistan cause a
slight annoyance, so easily they distort reality, and tourists come and understand that this is not what
they expected. Our main disadvantage is that the Uzbek tourist product is sold incorrectly. In order
for people to come to our country, they must understand in advance what opportunities there are in
Uzbekistan, what can be done here. Plus, they expect a certain quality of service. Foreign tourists in
Uzbekistan - both real and potential - are confused by three things: the difficulty of obtaining a visa,
travel agencies provide tours only for groups of tourists, service. To obtain a visa, a tourist must have
an invitation letter or obtain it through a travel agency. In addition, the visa must indicate the cities
that the tourist is going to visit. The problem of transport is also significant, since it often goes off
schedule and is usually overcrowded. Most shops are closed in the evening and at night. Tourists
often have problems with the police.
But another very formidable problem is the presence of powerful competitors: China, it is planned
to spend 9.8 billion dollars only on the development of tourism infrastructure in Beijing in the next

five to six years; India - different types of tourism are represented in different states of the country,
the Ministry of India does not spare money for an advertising campaign - in 2005-2006, 48 million
dollars will be allocated for these purposes; countries of Southeast Asia, such as Malaysia and Sin-
gapore, are turning Southeast Asia into a single tourist destination, that is, creating such conditions
so that tourists visiting one Southeast Asian country have the opportunity to visit other countries of
the region. But in order to be competitive, the countries of Central Asia can also move in a united
front because the tourists themselves are becoming much more demanding and discerning. More and
more often they want to combine cultural program, ecotourism, medical tourism and “wild” rest in
one tour. The main thing is to initiate the process, send a signal to investors and the government that
tourism in Uzbekistan has great potential and is worthy of serious attention from an economic point
of view. Of course, with the necessary financial support, all these types of tourism will be developed
in Uzbekistan itself, but think about how many opportunities cooperation opens up, say, with Kazakh-
stan in this industry. “Great monuments of history, culture and architecture of Uzbekistan and the
wild expanse of Western Altai are waiting for you!” It is necessary to develop a structure of uniform
standards for hotels, catering, ecotourism, create uniform tourist centers, and provide discounts.
To transform our shortcomings into individuality, but we have underdeveloped infrastructure, the
wrong level of service, until we can reach a higher level, let’s look at it from the other side - many
people like to travel because they want to experience new sensations, so we will give them the op-
portunity to feel all the exotic the old town, a cottage in the mountains with all their disadvantages,
arranged like an antiquity.
