Fourthly, English influences the judicial system at local level. For instance, when judges adju
-
dicate a foreigner, they may need a translator to administer justice properly. Whenever the judge is
fluent
in English, he/she will be able to control the correctness of the translation.
Additionally, as the world becomes smaller and interconnected, being able to communicate with
people from different countries becomes a really valuable skill. Learning English can really boost
employment opportunities and help to expand talents - across a worldwide stage.
Moreover, English along with French is one of the official languages of the International Court
of Justice, where international disputes and situations between countries are resolved by peaceful
means. A competent lawyer willing to operate in international courts like the international court of
justice, the International Criminal Court and the European Court of Human Rights has to have a good
command of both general and legal English.
Furthermore, as Albert Einstein said: “Education is not learning of the facts, but training the mind
to think”. While intellectual regulation is becoming the key for progress, ensuring the high quality
of education should be the main goal of any state. It requires to gain
experience from developed
and well-educated countries and new teaching methods for improvement. If we want to expand our
knowledge, study further or carry out research, then English will be an invaluable tool. So long as
we take into account the fact that English is an official language in educational institutes with highly
effective teaching methods that can meet international standarts, the importance of
learning english
will be clarified. This provides golden opportunity to receive new knowledge that may be unavailable
in our first language.
On the basis of learning the researches and facts about role of English language in law, we have
revealed the following functions of a foreign language in lawyer’s profession:
— to create an access to legislative, judicial systems of foreign countries (the USA, France,
Germany, Great Britain);
—
to introduce to world jurisprudence;
—
to acquire the international law;
— to help for comparing the ways of prosecution of judicial cases in foreign countries with
home country ones;
— to help in rendering assistance to
foreign and joint enterprises, firms;
—
to improve the professional level of a judicial service;
— to raise qualifications of a lawyer by studying literature in a foreign language;
—
to create an opportunity for taking part at international seminars, meetings, conferences,
workshops;
—
to improve lawyers’ professional skills by working on probation in foreign countries, etc.
To sum up, it has been shown that English has great importance in jurisprudence when it comes
to boosting employment opportunities, expanding your knowledge and promoting justice. Generally
speaking, knowledge of English will have only positive impact on the work of lawyers.
