“Be it ever so humble ”

“Be it ever so humble, there is no place like home”

The sentence is inverted, and the adverbial clause which is aimed to express concession is omitted. Concessive construction indicates two opposite situation, concessive clauses indicate that the situation in the matrix clause is contrary to expectation in the light of what is said in the concessive clause. In this statement first part says “even if/although/ though it is very humble” the omitted conjunction (even if it is not there its function is obvious) rejects the fact, in other word, the humble condition of home, then gives opinion in main clause. This is how the statement is constructed.

• After inverting, the verb “to be”(which should be in the form of “is”) comes first, like any other subjunctive mood sentences. That means “Be” is a main verb and “it” as a subject. The words (adverbs)“ever” and “so” used to emphasize and color the meaning of the “humble”(adjective).
