Some people think that individuals today are more dependent on each other. Others believe people have become more independent. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Today, people’s independence has somewhat increased. Some people think that people have become more reliant on each other, whereas other school of thought holds that people are becoming more self-reliant these days. I will examine both these opinions, and explain why I feel that the latter argument seems to be more sensible.
Clearly, sceptics advocate for a dependent way of living for people. They state that especially young people are more reliant on their parents or other caregivers. That is to say, juveniles might not have a rewarding job till they have started their own work independently. Since children need to support their education and living costs, they could definitely long for their parents until they take the first steps on ‘harder’ walks of life. Additionally, people, who are struggling to seek affection, might rely more on people, especially their relatives. As they are away from home, they might feel a sense of homesickness and dependency on caregivers virtually all the time.
That being said, proponents, myself included, of the idea that self-reliance has become prevalent have reasonable arguments. Firstly, due to modernization, people are becoming less dependent on each other. Specifically, in today’s modern society, technological ‘marvels’ have penetrated all aspects of our lives. This is, in turn, lowering human’s reliance on people around as technologies are helping us deal with almost everything. Moreover, thanks to the accessibility of the Internet, people can get mass amounts of information in just few clicks. In addition to this, they could take up online courses, have their necessary labors done online or even order food by delivery, which can eventually lessen high dependency on humans.
In conclusion, whether people have been reliant on each other is partly a matter of debate. Personally, I believe that we are becoming independent these days due to the advances made in technology as well as the Internet. (309 words) Band 7.0
