STATEMENT
The Borough of North Plainfield in Somerset County shares three zip codes with the City of Plainfield in Union County. To simplify mail delivery and enhance the individuality of North Plainfield, the General Assembly urges the United States Postal Service to assign a new zip code to North Plainfield.
Under the current situation, the mail for North Plainfield residents is often delayed or is lost altogether because North Plainfield addresses are mistakenly identified as Plainfield addresses. This confusion is exacerbated by the fact that the two communities have 23 identical street names. In addition, North Plainfield residents are often sent information about Union County schools or even Union County jury summons, which causes confusion and frustration.
