close to its borders.Stalin's expansionist policy toward Turkey included the mass deportation of
Meskhetian Turks, Soviet Kurds, and Hamshils from Georgia to Kazakhstan and Central
Asia.Muslims deported from Georgia suffered greatly during the first years of exile. As Soviet
citizens, they lost their ancestors and their homeland, and many people lost their prosperous
lives.
