Relevance of the topic

Asphyxia is one of the leading causes of high morbidity and mortality among infants. The proportion of asphyxia in the structure (device) of perinatal mortality is 40.3%

• Asphyxia in infants is defined as shortness of breath in the presence of a heartbeat or abnormal rhythmic-like shallow breathing.

Concept

• Asphyxia is the inability of a baby to breathe spontaneously as a result of impaired oxygenation at birth.

According to the WHO definition
Asphyxia develops in the antenatal period as a result of hypoxia and hypercapnia of the fetus and is characterized by dysfunction of vital systems and internal organs.

Fetal hypoxia

a complex of changes that develops due to insufficient supply of oxygen to the tissues and internal organs of the fetus or its inadequate utilization
Fetal hypoxia can be acute or chronic
The main causes of fetal hypoxia are:
