Asphyxia is one of the leading causes of high morbidity and mortality among infants. The proportion of asphyxia in the structure (device) of perinatal mortality is 40.3%
- Asphyxia in infants is defined as shortness of breath in the presence of a heartbeat or abnormal rhythmic-like shallow breathing.
Concept
- Asphyxia is the inability of a baby to breathe spontaneously as a result of impaired oxygenation at birth.
According to the WHO definition
Asphyxia develops in the antenatal period as a result of hypoxia and hypercapnia of the fetus and is characterized by dysfunction of vital systems and internal organs.
