Artificial irrigation system during the reign of Amir Temur and the Temurids

Conclusion. Amir Temur improved the irrigation system of his country, built many canals and waterworks, and contributed to the material and spiritual growth of Movaraunnahr, which was growing in power. Archaeological excavations of the ancient irrigated lands of Bukhara show that the water economy of the oasis, which was completely destroyed by the Mongol invasion, was fully restored by the 15th century. Its agricultural area has expanded, and the western boundary of the oasis is even 5-6 km inland towards the Urgench steppe. During the reign of Ulugbek (1409-1449) water was pumped to the Somonjik steppe near the south-eastern border of the Bukhara oasis and new lands were developed. These include a number of irrigation canals dug in the Murgab oasis by order of Amir Temur, the Bodon anchor in the Joyinav valley near Kabul, or the Barlos stream in the Baylakon area in the Caucasus. Amir Temur ordered to dig canals in the Murgab River and rehabilitate the Marv oasis.
At the borders and each of the state officials are in charge of digging a separate canal. The Barlos Canal, which was built in 1404 in the Baylakon district of the Caucasus by the decree of Amir Temur from the Araks River, is one of the largest irrigation facilities of its time. Its length was 10 farsakhs (60-70 km). Ships were able to travel freely along the canal. Due to these reforms of Amir Temur, Movaraunnahr flourished in the XIV-XV centuries.
