Grammar Past continuous and past simple

We use the past continuous to talk about an action that was in progress at a particular point in the past. We also use it when we want to emphasize that a past action continued for some time.	I was working at 2 p.m. yesterday. I was working all night.
When a shorter action happens in the middle of another longer action or suddenly ends it, we use the past continuous for the longer action and the past simple for the shorter action.
