Inspire Thinking
Step 1: Ask them to think of answers to their own questions. Aid the process of arriving at the answer rather than providing the answer.
Step 2: Once they have arrived at a possible explanation, ask them to reason with their own answers.
This process of thinking about thinking – Metacognition, will help them find flaws (or support) in their own arguments and fine tune their opinion. Thus, making them better critical thinkers.
Single Island
Step 1: Teacher hangs on a situation based on topic and explains how to be ready. Students must go into more depth about how their island will work.
Step 2: Students must decide on:
Roles and responsibilities
Division of labour
Leadership
Justice / punishment / laws /rules
Decision making
Step 3: Students present their system to the class, other groups can ask questions.
Step 4: teacher assesses the active participants
