Observation essay
This lesson plan is prepared by British council and the type of it is face-to-face lesson plan. The topic is “A GREEN CLASSROOM”. In this essay, I am analyzing this lesson plan and writing about how it is suitable for Uzbek schoolchildren.
Firstly, this lesson plan is suitable for use with primary learners of English aged 6-8 CEFR level A1 and above in Britain. It means that British students, who are native speakers of English language, can fully soak up language incredibly quickly. However, when it comes to our Uzbek students whose English language is foreign language can be difficult to acquire this knowledge, now that aged 6-8 pupils in our schools begin learning this language only at that time and till that day some of them may not encounter this language before, because they are not native speakers. Furthermore, our students, at that time, start to learn letters and how to write in Uzbek language, therefore, I believe that this lesson plan is appropriate for Uzbek students, aged 9-10 (grade 3-4) CEFR level A1 and above in Uzbekistan. This is also suitable for both gender students’ cultural backgrounds and needs.
Secondly, this lesson can improve their problem-solving skills by developing their creativity and creative thinking. For instance: Answering the questions in discussion areas can boost their creative thinking. The process of making poster and finding differences in there is for increase their creativity. In order to develop their communicative abilities, it has more discussion parts and group work activity and these are not only for promoting communication but also tending them to collaborate with other students on their projects or presentations. By the way, it also influences on their speaking abilities. Additionally, the sequence of all activities and explanations is done carefully, for step by step pupils can manage and comprehend the topic without any misunderstanding. Explanation and exercises on lesson plan are for all type of learners, because they have more pictures and ppt files for visuals, discussion parts and a song for auditory learners, mote-taking of vocabulary and preparing posters for kinesthetic and read/write learners. Plus, there are 3 different interaction patterns: S, Ss-Ss and T-Ss. This framework may lead on achieving settled outcomes but it is only for British schoolchildren. Our students who are in the same age may not fully get it. For example, in discussion areas, they cannot fully talk in English as British students. As a result, it negative impacts on their communicative and collaborative skills because of their non-capability of speaking foreign language. Another issue is that time is 75min and it is enough to achieve all outcomes which are given but only in Britain, but in Uzbekistan for each lesson students have only 45 min and teacher cannot use lesson plan fully and she or he should miss some activities which are vital and beneficial for their learning English language.
Thirdly, I highlighted here is that this is well-organized lesson plan and by using this, instructor can easily teach and gain his or her aims. As for me, the part of making poster is the best, because in the process, pupils may develop so many skills: creativity- designing a poster and choosing more colorful pencils, communication- doing all these by discussing with their team members, creating thinking- finding 8 differences between their work and others. Moreover, it creates positive atmosphere to keep their friendship.
Finally, were I able to change anything in this lesson plan, I would absolutely take advantage of this opportunity, for in this lesson it can be seen that singing song (about saving our green planet) is optional task and the teacher decide to use or not. For that reason, I want to it mandatory and do it in the middle of lesson, because this can be positive distraction or break to have rest, give some fun to them and tend to get their more attention to the topic.
In conclusion, although this prepared lesson plan is perfect, it is not fully suitable for Uzbek students who are aged 6-8.
