Statement of intent
Nowadays, learning foreign languages is becoming a trend. As a result, several ways of learning a language is being discovered. One of them is learning a language through authentic materials. Authentic materials are print, audio and video materials students encounter in their daily lives. There are two main categories of authentic materials: print and auditory. ESL students often use authentic auditory materials. For this reason, I have chosen this topic. Moreover, there are other several reason for choosing this topic.
When producing language, whether it be speaking or writing, one of the most important language functions is that of agreeing and disagreeing. This language funciton is essential because it allows speakers to negotiate meaning and reach agreements while communicating with others. For this reason, in todays quick post, I’m going to teach you how to express agreement and disagreement in English with a comprehensive list of expressions that allow you to agree and disagree with others. Also, I will show you a few expressions to express your opinions, as this is very closely linked to how we agree or disagree with others.
Many language learners focus a lot on speaking. This section covers the language that we use when we wish to agree or disagree with someone in English.
Sooner or later you will get the urge to agree or disagree with something that is being said in English. Offering an opinion can be difficult when it is not in your first language. You may know exactly what you want to say in your native tongue, but are unsure of how to express your views in English. You may also worry that your words will not come out properly or that you might hurt someone's feelings by being too forward. Although it is easier to sit back and say nothing at all, you will become bored or frustrated if all you can do is nod your head yes or shake your head no, especially if you have a strong opinion about something.
Literature review
Research on the structure of dialogue has been hampered for years because large di- alogue corpora have not been available. This has impacted the dialogue research community’s ability to develop better the- ories, as well as good off-the-shelf tools for dialogue processing. Happily, an in- creasing amount of information and opin- ion exchange occur in natural dialogue in online forums, where people share their opinions about a vast range of topics. In particular we are interested in rejection in dialogue, also called disagreement and denial, where the size of available dia- logue corpora, for the first time, offers an opportunity to empirically test theo- retical accounts of the expression and in- ference of rejection in dialogue. In this paper, we test whether topic-independent features motivated by theoretical predic- tions can be used to recognize rejection in online forums in a topic-independent way. Our results show that our theoretically mo- tivated features achieve 66% accuracy, an improvement over a unigram baseline of an absolute 6% Expressing agreement and disagreement in English
